About Us

Welcome to VEMU Estonian Museum Canada. Although VEMU was established in 2009, its foundation is made up of over 50 years of hard work that was done by Tartu College and the staff and volunteers of Tartu Institute.

We strive to engage all people with Estonian culture. We accomplish this by:

• Exploring the universal immigration experience through the Estonian lens
• Collecting, preserving, and providing access to materials which reflect the lives and activities of the Estonian diaspora and its connection to Estonia
• Presenting the arts, culture, and historical experiences of Estonians through our wide variety of cultural programming
• Fostering relationships between Estonian, Estonian Canadian, and Canadian artists
• Pursuing partnerships and collaboration between Estonian, Canadian and international academic, cultural, and memory institutions
• Honouring previous generations for their contributions to the global Estonian community and Canadian society
• Offering new generations of the Estonian diaspora the opportunity to connect with Estonian identity, culture, and language
