Competition for the position of an archival assistant

The expanding activities of the Estonian Studies Centre and the establishment of the Museum of Estonians Abroad have substantially increased its archival and museum workload. Because of this, the Estonian Studies Centre is declaring a competition for the following position:

Archival Assistant (full time)

Duties:
– Sorting, describing and digitizing the video collection; cataloguing onto the computer database
– Sorting, describing and digitizing the audio collection; cataloguing onto the computer database
– Sorting, describing and digitizing the photo collection; cataloguing onto the computer database
– Cataloguing of books
– Preparation of exhibitions and publications
– Organization of events
– Editing the VEMU website

Requisite skills and work experience:
– Post-secondary education in Estonian history (including archival training; previous experience in the study of the history of the Estonian diaspora is desirable)
– Very good language skills in Estonian, both oral and written (must have received systematic instruction in the Estonian language)
– Very good knowledge of Estonian history and culture (including music history)
– Very good language skills in English, both oral and written
– Work experience with archives, museums and libraries
– Experience working with exhibitions
– Very good computer skills, including knowledge of Inmagic Db, and experience with website editing
– The successful candidate shows initiative, is quick to learn, methodical and precise
