Peeter Põldre’s lecture “Hot Dogs, Soap and Marital Harmony: Tales from the Career of a Hematologist”

On Wednesday, January 28th, 7 pm at Tartu College Dr. Peeter Põldre is going to give a lecture on the topic Hot Dogs, Soap and Marital Harmony: Tales from the Career of a Hematologist. 

Dr. Peeter Põldre, Professor of Medicine and Hematologist, will present a brief history of blood as it relates to our languages and culture. He will spend most of the talk providing a basic understanding of blood and its disorders and diseases. The three unusual elements of the title will also be explained. He will conclude with some general advice about blood related disorders and hopes to have adequate time to answer questions from the audience.

 

Dr. Peeter Põldre is a graduate of the University of Toronto Medical School and has speciality certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in both Internal Medicine and Hematology. After a two year fellowship in Boston, he returned to Toronto to assume the position of Staff Hematologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Wellesley Hospital. In 1989, he relocated to Sunnybrook Hospital, where he also had major administrative roles for two decades as Vice President Education and Medical Affairs. During this time he completed his Doctorate in Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto and was also promoted to full Professor in 2005. He retired from his administrative roles three years ago, but quickly became involved with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario as an elected member of Council and as of January 1, 2015, he is the Chair of the Discipline Committee of the College.
