On Sunday, November 23rd, 2014, 2 pm at Tartu College 95th Anniversary Convocation of Tartu University.

The anniversary speech is given by the rector of Tartu University prof. Volli Kalm on the topic Tartu Ülikooli ja Eesti kõrghariduse tänasest päevast ja tulevikust.

Professor Volli Kalm has been the Rector of the University of Tartu since 2012 and a professor since 1992. He has received his PhD in geology in 1984 from the Institute of Geology, Estonian Academy of Sciences and also held a postdoc position at the University of Alberta from 1988-1989. His main fields of research are paleoclimatology, paleogeography and chronology of glaciations, sedimentology, geoarchaeology. Professor Volli Kalm has been the Chairman of Board of the Estonian Research Council, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Tartu, Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Geography and Head of the Institute of Geology at University of Tartu. 6 MSc and 7 PhD dissertations have been defended under his supervision. He is a Member of Advisory Editorial Board of the journal „E&G – Quaternary Science Journal”, a Member of Editorial Board of the journal “Oil Shale”, a Member of the Board of the journal “Boreas” and a Member of the Board of the “Estonian Journal of Earth Sciences”. Professor Kalm is a member of Estonian Research Policy Committee advising the Minister of Education and Research and has been the Chairman of Estonian Research Council. He has been awarded the Fourth Class Order of the White Star of Estonia.
