Lotte and Friends Are Coming to the Estonian House!

Tuesday, October 25th at 3pm Lotte will be at Ehatare and at 7pm at the Estonian House visiting the Toronto Estonian School students. Estonian children’s authors Piret Raud and Kertu Sillaste will be joining the Lotte crew at Ehatare and the Estonian House.

In collaboration with the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre we will have visitors from Estonia. Children’s authors, Piret Raud and Kertu Sillaste, and the creators and film makers, Heiki Ernits and Janno Põldmäe, of the favourite film and literary hero for Estonian children, Lotte, will be visiting with Lotte herself, as portrayed by Gerli Padar in the Vanemuine Theatre musical performances. Piret Raud is one of the most successful Estonian children’s authors, whose books are not only popular in Estonia, but they have also been translated into many different languages. Kertu Sillaste, known for her illustrations of children’s books, has also begun writing. The other group is representing Lotte, who began her road to success in 2000 with the animated film Lotte Goes South. It was followed by two more films: Lotte from Gadgetville and Lotte and the Moonstone Secret. Now Lotte has made her way into books, school textbooks, on to t-shirts, stockings, socks, and even bedsheets. You can even buy Lotte cheesecake bars (kohukesed) and ice cream from grocery stores in Estonia.
